Cheryl Tweedy’s family experienced turmoil due to a heartbreaking revelation. The renowned singer reportedly made several efforts to assist her elder brother, Andrew Tweedy, in overcoming his struggles with addiction.
Andrew was spotted residing in a tent outside a supermarket in Jarrow, South Tyneside, where he was observed asking for basic necessities like coffee and sandwiches. Despite their differing circumstances, Cheryl, alongside her other siblings – Garry, Gillian, and Joe, grew up with their parents, Joan Callaghan and Garry Tweedy, on a council estate in Newcastle.
The family dynamics shifted dramatically when Andrew, at the age of 14, returned home enraged after learning the truth about his biological father. Cheryl recollected the intense moment in her 2012 autobiography, detailing the emotional upheaval that ensued as Andrew confronted their parents about his paternity.
Following the revelation, Andrew and Gillian struggled to cope and turned to substance abuse, while their father’s infidelity led to his separation from Cheryl’s mother. The family faced further challenges when Andrew, at 15, was involved in a violent altercation that resulted in his imprisonment.
Despite the turmoil, Cheryl remained hopeful that Andrew’s incarceration would prompt a positive change in his life. The singer’s openness about her family’s struggles in her autobiography, however, reportedly led to bullying directed at Gillian, as per Andrew’s then-girlfriend.
