Tributes are pouring in for a beloved individual known as a “gentle giant” who tragically passed away unexpectedly at a primary school. Wayne Ellis, aged 48, collapsed on the school grounds of Waterwells Primary Academy in Quedgeley just after 4pm on June 4. He had been overseeing a tag rugby match at the school before emergency services, including the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, responded to the medical crisis.
Despite efforts to save him, Wayne could not be revived and passed away at the scene. In his honor, a fundraising campaign was launched, swiftly raising over £8,000 within five days. A close friend of Wayne and his partner Jen, Felicity Tucker, set up a GoFundMe page to commemorate the “silent hero” known for his immense generosity.
Felicity expressed heartfelt sentiments on the GoFundMe page, highlighting Wayne’s significant contributions to the Waterwells community. He devoted extensive time to coaching the tag rugby team and served as the Chair of the Friends of Waterwells PTA. Beyond his involvement in school events like discos and fairs, Wayne was passionate about music, DJing, and even assisting during Christmas festivities.
In remembrance of Wayne, funds are being raised to alleviate the financial burdens faced by his family during this challenging period. Donations will support funeral expenses and offer practical assistance to Jen and the children as they navigate the future without him. While no sum can replace the void left by Wayne’s absence, the initiative aims to provide solace and demonstrate the family’s widespread love and support.
