Dame Joanna Lumley has openly shared that thoughts of mortality cross her mind daily. The renowned Absolutely Fabulous actress is approaching her 80th birthday on May 1 and has affirmed her commitment to continue working, stating, “I’ll be here when I’m 90 – as long as I can communicate.”

In a recent interview with Radio Times, Dame Joanna reflected on the intertwined nature of life and death, expressing, “I think about dying every day because I think about living every day and I can’t see them as separate. It seems completely natural to be born, live, and eventually pass away. I view it as a part of life’s journey rather than a tragedy or loss.”

Discussing her stance on assisted dying, Dame Joanna mentioned her terminally ill friend, Dame Esther Rantzen, who advocates for the Assisted Dying Bill. Dame Joanna shared her perspective on the matter, stating, “I’d consider it a ‘nice thing’ for some individuals. I’d like to have the option available in case the time comes when I feel it’s too unbearable. It would spare my loved ones from legal repercussions.”

Expressing her eagerness to age gracefully, Dame Joanna emphasized her desire to reach the age of 90 and expressed anticipation for the future. She has previously expressed her willingness to consider voluntary euthanasia if a point is reached where self-care becomes unmanageable.
