Dan Walker has addressed the recent development involving his former co-host Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije, 47, who has resolved the dispute out of court with allegations of racism, sexism, misogyny, and bullying within the Channel 5 News workplace. Walker expressed his readiness to go to tribunal, emphasizing that the decision to settle was not his own, and he wished his former colleague well.
In a statement shared on his Instagram and Twitter accounts, Walker stated that an agreement had been reached between Channel 5, ITN, and the claimant, asserting that he had been prepared to defend against the allegations. He expressed ongoing concern for the claimant’s well-being and gratitude towards his family, friends, legal team, and colleagues for their support.
Clarifying his stance, Walker wrote above his statement that all allegations had been withdrawn without his agreement to settle. Channel 5 also released a statement refuting any wrongdoing and expressing satisfaction with the resolution of the matter related to Walker.
ITN similarly denied the claims in full and expressed relief at the matter’s resolution. The dispute arose from allegations made by Vanderpuije against ITN and Channel 5, alleging mistreatment after making protected disclosures. She cited a toxic work environment and attempts to conceal it, contravening legal obligations and broadcasting standards.
Following the withdrawal, a statement on behalf of Vanderpuije confirmed a mutual agreement had been reached, retracting the allegations against Walker. The two had previously worked together after Walker’s move to Channel 5 in 2022, following his departure from BBC Breakfast. Vanderpuije, who had been with Channel 5 since 2018, departed in 2023 under sudden circumstances.
