“Deadly Fire Ravages Indian Commercial Building, Claims 14 Lives”

A devastating fire has swept through a commercial building in India, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least 14 individuals.

The incident occurred on Monday, June 23, at a structure located in the northern Indian city of Lucknow. The majority of the casualties were students.

The exact cause of the fire, which engulfed the building housing a pet shop, veterinary clinic, study center, and animation studio, remains unknown at this time.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak of Uttar Pradesh confirmed the recovery of 14 bodies from the site. Additionally, around 10 individuals were rescued and transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Videos shared on social media depicted people escaping through shattered windows.

A harrowing video captured a man falling from an upper floor while attempting to flee, though reports indicated that he survived and was admitted to a hospital.

Emergency responders faced challenges due to dense smoke, prompting firefighters to breach a rear wall to gain entry into the building. Exhaust fans were deployed to disperse the smoke as rescue teams scoured the premises for any remaining survivors.

This tragic incident echoes past fire-related disasters in India, such as the fatal fire at Rituraj Hotel in central Kolkata where 14 tourists perished. Fire safety concerns persist in the country, with reports of builders and residents disregarding regulations and safety protocols.

Critics have highlighted a pattern of cost-cutting measures compromising safety standards, and they have criticized authorities for negligence and indifference towards enforcing building codes.

Notably, in 2022, a devastating fire claimed the lives of 27 individuals in a four-story commercial building in New Delhi, underscoring the urgent need for stricter safety measures and enforcement protocols.
