Musical theater luminary Diana Vickers was left stunned when renowned Avengers actor Robert Downey Jr. mentioned her theatrical production in a room full of Hollywood’s elite.
The 34-year-old songstress headlined a “whimsical and eccentric” play based on Gwyneth Paltrow’s legal battle over a skiing mishap, titled “I Wish You Well: The Gwyneth Paltrow Ski-Trial Musical.”
During an awards presentation, Robert playfully referenced the spoof performance. Overwhelmed, Diana expressed, “Robert Downey Jr. acknowledged our musical during his speech… I was completely taken aback. It was an incredible moment!”
“It was incredibly thrilling. I was so elated that I even forgot to share the video on social media. I must go back and do that,” she added.
Describing it as one of her most fulfilling endeavors, Diana hinted at a potential revival of the play due to its popularity, especially after Robert’s mention at the Women in Entertainment awards in LA sparked curiosity among US audiences.
Hailing from Lancashire, Diana hinted at the possibility of Gwyneth Paltrow attending a future show, given her apparent endorsement of the production through mutual acquaintances.
Reflecting on the success of the play, Diana has also introduced American audiences to a quintessential British summer treat: picky bits. Her viral song dedicated to this snack earned her the moniker “summer’s Mariah Carey.”
Celebrating National Picky Bits Day, Diana collaborated with the supermarket chain where she and her family worked before her rise to fame on the X Factor in 2008.
