After a heartbreaking court decision to remove their baby’s life support, Dean Gregory and Claire Staniforth bid farewell to their eight-month-old daughter, Indi, in November 2023. Nearly three years later, the couple found joy again with the arrival of their new baby girl, Arabella Indi-Leigh.
Arabella was born in the early hours of a Thursday, weighing 8 pounds. Dean, 40, expressed his overwhelming emotions at Arabella’s birth, saying that while nothing can replace Indi, Arabella has brought a new light into their lives. He described Arabella as a precious gift, feeling a strong connection to her late sister.
Indi suffered from a heart condition and mitochondrial disease, leading Dean and Claire to make the difficult decision to remove her life support at their home. Despite their wishes, Indi passed away in a hospice. Welcoming Arabella into their home was a deeply significant moment for the couple, symbolizing a fresh start filled with hope and happiness.
Claire, 38, underwent thorough scans during her pregnancy with Arabella, fearing the possibility of her inheriting Indi’s condition. Fortunately, Arabella arrived without any complications, which the family views as a special blessing from Indi.
Reflecting on Arabella’s birth, Dean described a sense of peace and calmness during the labor, feeling as though Indi was watching over them. The couple, who also have a daughter named Vienna, shared a touching moment when they discovered Claire’s pregnancy, seeing it as a sign of hope and love from Indi.
Despite their legal battle and failed appeals to continue Indi’s treatment, the couple received support from Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, who offered assistance that was ultimately declined. They aim to instill in Arabella the importance of love, compassion, and fighting for what you believe in, ensuring that Indi’s memory lives on through their family’s story.
