Two individuals lost their lives in a collision involving a TUI tourist bus and three vehicles on the popular vacation destination of Lanzarote. Another two individuals, including a young child, were swiftly taken to the hospital following the tragic incident on the LZ-2 road in the southwest part of the island.
Images from the crash scene depict the severely damaged TUI bus with its front section crumpled and its windshield shattered, as well as the mangled remains of a car. The deceased victims were an Italian couple who were traveling in one of the cars with an eight-year-old child. In addition to them, a five-year-old child and a 36-year-old bus passenger were among the eight individuals injured in the accident.
Local authorities, including the police, Civil Guard, paramedics, and firefighters, promptly responded to the scene after receiving reports of the crash on the road connecting Playa Blanca resort to the town of Yaiza just before 7:45 pm the previous day.
An emergency services spokesperson confirmed that a man and a woman perished in the collision. A five-year-old child, who initially suffered a moderate elbow injury, was transported by a medicalized ambulance to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital. The initial calls reported a collision involving three cars and a bus. Firefighters secured the area, extracted the trapped victims from the vehicles, and confirmed the fatalities of two occupants from the same vehicle due to the severity of their injuries. Additionally, assistance was provided to a minor with moderate injuries who was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
It is believed that there were eight passengers on the bus, including the driver. The deceased individuals in the car were reportedly Italian nationals residing in Lanzarote. Authorities are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the tragic crash.
