Three individuals have lost their lives in a tragic collision on the A1 in Northumberland, according to Northumbria Police. The incident occurred between Denwick and South Charlton, involving a silver Volkswagen Polo and a red Hyundai i20 traveling in opposite directions. The male driver and female passenger of the Hyundai, both elderly, were pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, a female passenger from the Polo also succumbed to her injuries, while the male driver sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the hospital.
Authorities have notified the next of kin of those involved in the Volkswagen Polo, who are receiving specialized support. Efforts are ongoing to inform the next of kin of the Hyundai occupants. The road was closed for approximately seven hours following the accident but has since reopened.
