“Father sentenced to prison for shaking baby son to death”

Published on

A father has been sentenced to prison after causing fatal injuries to his three-month-old son by shaking him with violence. Bradley Thomas, described as “sleep deprived,” shook his son, Emmerson-Oak Thomas, resulting in severe harm. Despite noticing distress signs in the baby, Thomas delayed seeking medical help for 30 minutes after waking his partner.

Emmerson suffered breathing difficulties and abnormal arm movements following the incident. Despite being rushed to hospitals, he tragically passed away on October 8. Thomas, aged 23, was convicted of murder and received a life sentence with a minimum of 14 years to serve.

During sentencing at Teesside Crown Court, Mr. Justice Sheldon KC highlighted the loss of a young life and the impact of Thomas’ actions. Thomas, who was struggling with lack of sleep and frustration, failed to provide prompt care to his son, leading to irreversible brain injuries.

The court revealed that Thomas initially misled authorities about the incident but later admitted to shaking his son forcefully, causing the fatal injuries. Senior Investigating Officer, T/Detective Superintendent Deb Fenny, expressed the emotional toll of investigating the case and the pursuit of justice for Emmerson-Oak.

The outcome of the trial brought some closure to the family, although it cannot undo the tragedy. The investigative team, medical personnel, and legal experts involved in the case were commended for their dedication and professionalism. The authorities emphasized the importance of seeking justice for Emmerson-Oak and ensuring his story was heard, despite the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding his death.
