Feline Resident Shot with Rifle at Shropshire Rescue Center

Published on

Staff members at a rescue center in Shropshire expressed shock and disbelief after discovering that one of their feline residents had been shot with a rifle. Severn Valley Rescue, located near Bridgnorth in Billingsley, shared on social media that their ginger cat, Mr. Star, went missing over the weekend and returned with a severe injury. The cat was promptly taken to a veterinary clinic, where it was revealed that he had been shot with a real rifle, not an air rifle, requiring a license to possess. Mr. Star’s condition was critical, with low blood count and significant blood loss, leaving the attending vet amazed at his survival.

In response to the incident, Amanda Ball, a co-founder of Severn Valley Rescue, initiated a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to support Mr. Star’s extensive treatment costs, estimated to be substantial. Currently, the cat is undergoing treatment to stabilize him before undergoing a front leg amputation later this week. The fundraiser has already secured over £500, a significant portion of its £2,500 target.

The rescue center is actively seeking information from surveillance footage and residents to identify the perpetrator. They have cooperated with law enforcement and preserved evidence related to the shooting incident. Individuals with any details, particularly those aware of shooting activities near Billingsley on specific dates, are urged to come forward.

Severn Valley Rescue, a charitable organization established in 2008 as Shropshire Donkey Rescue, has cared for numerous animals, including those with disabilities like a deaf pig, three-legged cats, a one-eyed alpaca, and a blind donkey. Their commitment to animal welfare remains unwavering, with a focus on providing sanctuary and care to over 200 animals in need.
