A significant fire erupted on Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh yesterday, and as of this morning, fire crews are still actively fighting the flames. The fire ignited near the Palace of Holyrood House at approximately 6:30 pm on Sunday, prompting the response of four fire engines from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Witnesses from the nearby Scottish Parliament captured images showing a large plume of smoke emanating from the hill. This incident coincides with a period of dry weather in Scotland, with substantial wildfires ongoing in the Cairngorms region. Notably, a section of Arthur’s Seat was also affected by a fire in August of the previous year.

As of 6:30 am on Monday, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service had deployed six appliances to the scene, initially responding to reports of the fire at 6:38 pm on Sunday. At the same time, efforts to contain a separate wildfire in the Cairngorms, burning since Wednesday, were still ongoing.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported, and the police have closed roads in the vicinity to assist the firefighting operation. Queens Drive, near Pollock Halls and Dynamic Earth, is currently inaccessible, with drivers advised to seek alternative routes.

In a recent update by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at 9:50 pm, it was mentioned that Arthur’s Seat had also experienced a fire in August 2025, requiring firefighters to combat it for over six days. While no casualties were reported during the recent incident, the public was urged to avoid the affected area.

Local MP Chris Murray issued a cautionary statement via social media concerning the fire at Arthur’s Seat, advising people to steer clear of the area. Numerous videos circulating on social platforms captured the severity of the flames engulfing the hill.

Furthermore, individuals displaced by the Cairngorms National Park wildfire were instructed to register their details for potential re-entry to the exclusion zone. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service emphasized the closure of the area to visitors, with specific road closures in effect.

Efforts to contain the wildfire in the Glenmore area of the Cairngorms National Park were still ongoing as of 6:00 pm, marking the fifth consecutive day of firefighting operations. Specialist resources, including helicopter water-bombing operations, were being utilized alongside six fire engines, two all-terrain vehicles, a Wildfire Support Unit, and a water carrier.

While progress has been made, authorities emphasized the unpredictable nature of wildfires and the need for continued vigilance. Visitor access remains restricted, and road closures persist in the affected areas. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service urged the public to comply with safety measures and avoid the impacted zones unless instructed otherwise.
