Ann Widdecombe’s residence was showcased on a national television program shortly before she was tragically killed. In the episode of Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House, which aired on Discovery+ on July 2, viewers had an inside look at the former MP and MEP’s home in Haytor on Dartmoor. Widdecombe, 78, expressed her fondness for the tranquility and seclusion of her Devon retreat on the show.
Unfortunately, shortly after the episode aired, Widdecombe was found deceased at her residence, having suffered severe injuries. Authorities have initiated a murder investigation, treating the incident as an act of terrorism.
Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House features celebrities decluttering their homes and uncovering valuable items for auction. Widdecombe’s appearance was part of the second season of the show, hosted by antiques expert Angus Ashworth.
During the episode, Widdecombe showcased various areas of her home, including the garden, library, conservatory, gym, and kitchen. The program did not play a role in the tragic events that followed.
While episodes are typically accessible on Discovery+, Widdecombe’s episode has been temporarily removed. Clips from the episode show Ashworth visiting Widdecombe’s bungalow in Haytor and assessing items she wished to sell.
Widdecombe, identified as a retired politician on the show, aimed to sell personal belongings such as a Japanese Satsuma dish, a scarf, a bag, and a teddy bear. She shared her decision to live in the remote property for peace and solitude as part of her retirement plan.
Following the auction on the show, Widdecombe earned £1,445, with the Japanese plate fetching the highest bid at £660. The repeated episode aired on Quest on July 2.
After Widdecombe’s tragic death at her Haytor property, the National Counter Terrorism Policing is leading the investigation to determine the motive behind the attack. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
