A man from the UK has been formally accused of negligence in connection with the tragic death of his three-year-old son. The incident occurred when the child fell from a fourth-floor hotel window in Chloraka, Paphos, while allegedly playing with his father.
Emergency services responded to the scene around 6:40 pm on July 12, but unfortunately, the boy did not survive the fall. He was rushed to Paphos General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Subsequently, the 37-year-old father was taken into custody following the heartbreaking event.
Reports indicate that the grieving family was on vacation with a five-year-old girl when the tragedy unfolded. They had just arrived that day, and the fatal accident took place as they were making their way downstairs for dinner, witnessed by the boy’s grandfather.
The father appeared before the Paphos district court the following morning, where law enforcement authorities requested an eight-day remand for further investigation. Local media accounts mention that the father became emotional during the court proceedings, leading to a brief pause in the session.
Authorities have accused the father of causing death through a reckless act and failing in his duties as the head of the family and caregiver. The UK Foreign Office has stated that they are providing assistance to the British family in Cyprus during this difficult time and are cooperating with local officials in the matter.
