Pride of Britain’s Matt Cox is set to participate in his third London Marathon this Sunday, but this time he will be using a wheelchair. The 46-year-old former PoB executive producer was diagnosed with motor neurone disease last year and aims to raise £100,000 for the MND Association to support critical research. Accompanied by his cousin Stewart, brother and sister Tomos and Natalie Owen, and his brother Tomos, he intends to complete the 26.2-mile TCS London Marathon course using a borrowed sports wheelchair.
Expressing gratitude for his family’s unwavering support, Matt shared, “My family immediately volunteered to assist me along the way. While I’ve faced the challenges of this disease, I am incredibly fortunate to have such a strong support system in my family and friends. This entire endeavor is a heartfelt tribute to my family.”
Matt, a prominent advocate of The Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards with P&O Cruises, received his diagnosis of the rare neurodegenerative disease in 2025. Reflecting on his past career as a TV executive producing successful shows like Pride of Britain for ITV, Matt recalled interacting with influential figures such as Simon Cowell and David Beckham. His health concerns surfaced during a production in Los Angeles in 2024, prompting his journey with the disease.
Despite the shocking diagnosis in August, Matt’s resilience shines through as he focuses on raising awareness and funds for the MND Association. Facing the uncertainties of the disease, Matt remains determined to support others in similar situations. Transitioning to a more reliant wheelchair-assisted lifestyle, he acknowledges his fears but remains committed to his cause and fundraising efforts.
Matt’s participation in the TCS London Marathon symbolizes his perseverance and dedication to making a difference in the MND community. Supported by his sister Natalie Owen and equipped with a loaned Delichon sports wheelchair, Matt’s inspiring journey continues to inspire hope and unity among his supporters.
