Fire TV Stick users need to exercise caution when adding new apps to their devices due to a recent development. The popular tool “Downloader” has been removed from Amazon’s Appstore, leaving room for a fraudulent copycat app aiming to defraud users of their money.

The disappearance of Downloader from Amazon’s marketplace over the weekend brought attention to the issue. For almost ten years, Downloader has been a valuable tool for Fire TV owners, enabling them to search for and install apps not found on official platforms.

Despite its widespread use, the app has faced a temporary suspension, as stated by its developer, Elias Saba. The suspension was triggered by a recent update that mistakenly categorized Downloader as a full web browser. Since Amazon prohibits third-party browsers on Fire TV devices, the app was blocked.

Saba, who operates the AFTVnews site, clarified the situation, emphasizing that Downloader’s identification as a browser was unintentional. He promptly released an update removing this classification and is hopeful that Amazon will reinstate the app in the coming days.

Meanwhile, a fake version of Downloader has emerged, seeking to deceive Fire TV owners. Saba warns against installing this scam app, which tricks users into a weekly payment of $6.99. He advises reporting it to Amazon and recommends retaining the legitimate Downloader until its restoration.

If Amazon greenlights the fix, Downloader may reappear on Fire TV devices later in the week. Users are advised to stay vigilant and monitor the situation closely to avoid falling victim to scams or losing access to the legitimate app.
