Millions of Gmail users are receiving a significant and much-anticipated update. Google has officially announced the rollout of a new feature that allows users to change their email addresses, offering a solution for those unhappy with their current Gmail account names.
According to Google, this update enhances users’ digital identities by enabling them to modify their Google Account usernames, the part before @gmail.com, used for accessing various services like Gmail, Photos, and Drive.
One of the key benefits of this enhancement is that the original email address will remain functional alongside the new one, ensuring that messages sent to either account will be received without any issues.
Google reassures users that their stored data, including photos, messages, and emails, will remain intact and unaffected by the change. However, this feature is currently only available in the US, with users in the UK waiting for its release.
For US users, Google advises accessing account settings, selecting personal info, then email, and Google account email to check for the option to change the email address. Users are reminded that they can only create a new address once every 12 months and are encouraged to verify if the update is available for their accounts.
