Dr. Ranj Singh, a familiar face on television for almost 15 years, has encountered various challenges in his personal life outside of his entertainment career.
Fans will have the opportunity to watch the TV doctor on the upcoming episode of “Escape to the Country” this weekend. The show, aimed at aiding potential homebuyers in finding their ideal countryside escape, features Dr. Ranj in a special celebrity edition.
Scheduled to re-air on Sunday, June 28 at 7:30 PM on BBC One, the celebrity episode follows expert Denise Nurse as she assists Dr. Ranj in his quest to transition from city life to a more peaceful existence in and around the Peak District with a budget of £550,000.
Accompanying the former “This Morning” star on his house-hunting journey is his friend and artist, Tom Wolski. Together, they explore the picturesque region and engage in friendly debates on whether being a doctor or a vet is a more demanding profession.
During the property search, Dr. Ranj was particularly impressed by a castle-like property, expressing his astonishment at its grandeur. Despite initially estimating its value at £700,000, the property was listed at £550,000, as reported by Kent Live.
Before embracing a quieter rural lifestyle, Dr. Ranj Singh, aged 46, grew up in a traditional Sikh household in Kent after being born in Chatham. Showing early promise, he attended Gordon Junior School in Strood and achieved his first GCSE at just eight years old before pursuing his medical studies in London.
Dr. Ranj has a successful medical career, having trained at various prestigious hospitals in London and becoming a member of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health in 2007. He has worked at renowned hospitals like St Thomas’ Hospital, Evelina Children’s Hospital, and Medway Maritime Hospital.
Moreover, as an accomplished author, Dr. Ranj’s debut non-fiction children’s book, “How to Grow up and Feel Amazing,” quickly climbed the Sunday Times bestseller chart.
In his personal life, Dr. Ranj was previously married to Sulvinder Samra in 2006 before coming out as gay after six years of marriage, leading to their divorce in 2011. Reflecting on this period, Dr. Ranj shared his journey of self-discovery and the realization that his perceived “perfect life” did not bring him complete happiness.
Advocating for LGBTQ rights, especially within minority communities, Dr. Ranj received the Attitude TV award in 2019 and highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by ethnic minorities and LGBT individuals.
Dr. Ranj has found happiness with his new partner, James Colebrook, an actor, model, personal trainer, and co-host of the Bunny and the Beast podcast. Colebrook, a graduate of Laine Theatre Arts performing arts college, has appeared in various stage productions, including Game Night at the West End’s Wonderville venue.
