An atrocious crime unfolded as a malevolent duo ruthlessly murdered and dismembered their housemates using meat cleavers.
Jeffrey Mackey, Alexis Nieves, and their cohort Steven Brown were sentenced to incarceration following a brutal attack on Malcolm Brown, 53, and Donna Conneely, 59, in 2024. The victims were fatally stabbed upon entering their residence on February 27, 2024, in Amityville, New York. Nieves reportedly assaulted Conneely with a meat tenderizer before stabbing her, while Mackey proceeded to stab Malcolm in the neck and torso. The gruesome incident was uncovered when a student stumbled upon a severed arm in a park just two days later.
Authorities uncovered additional human remains at various locations, including a male arm, a female head and torso, a female arm, and parts of female legs in Babylon Village. Further discoveries were made on March 5, 2024, leading to the identification of Malcolm and Donna as the victims. The police visited the residence where the couple resided with Malcolm, Conneely, Brown, and his partner Amanda Wallace.
During the investigation, two meat cleavers and a large kitchen knife were found, along with traces of blood in multiple areas within the home. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney stated that the defendants allegedly dismembered the victims’ bodies in the bathroom before enlisting the help of Steven and Wallace to dispose of the remains.
Mackey, aged 40, Nieves, 35, and Brown, who was Malcolm’s cousin, pleaded guilty to the charges in April 2024. Mackey and Nieves received reduced sentences under a plea deal, citing abuse from the victims as a mitigating factor.
Mackey’s attorney, speaking to NBC 4, highlighted the abuse suffered by Mackey and his wife at the hands of the victims as a contributing factor to the crimes committed.
In court proceedings, Mackey pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and received a 22-year prison sentence, while Nieves was sentenced to 11 years for a misdemeanor. Brown was handed a five-year sentence for conspiracy, and Wallace pleaded guilty to concealing a human corpse, receiving up to two years behind bars.
During the trial, Mackey expressed remorse, stating his wish that the tragic events had never occurred and apologizing to the victims’ families. However, Malcolm’s family criticized the sentences as inadequate, deeming them a mere “slap on the wrist” for the heinous acts committed.
