Three individuals have been apprehended after law enforcement labeled an appalling racially-motivated hate crime incident at a bustling North Down beach on Monday. Authorities were informed of an assault involving three men in their thirties at Helen’s Bay beach around 9pm, coinciding with a busy period due to the day’s high temperatures.

The assault occurred subsequent to an initial verbal dispute, resulting in significant but non-life-threatening injuries to the victims. Following the altercation, three men aged 28, 23, and 21 were intercepted in their vehicle and arrested on suspicion of assault causing bodily harm and possession of a weapon.

During a vehicle search, authorities found suspected class A and class B drugs, leading to the 23-year-old’s additional arrest on drug possession charges. The trio remains in police custody as the investigation progresses, officially categorized as a hate crime with racial motivations.

The police spokesperson acknowledged the distress caused to beachgoers and assured the community of the ongoing rapid investigation. Increased police presence and prompt response helped prevent further escalation, with public cooperation commended for aiding in the situation’s management.

As inquiries advance, the public is urged to come forward with any witnessed details or footage of the incident by contacting the police hotline at 101, referencing the incident number 1721 25/05/26.
