Television personality Helen Skelton recently opened up about her spontaneous decision to join the popular TV show “Strictly Come Dancing” and the advice she received from fellow TV host Gethin Jones.
Helen participated in the 2022 season of the BBC hit series alongside professional dancer Gorka Marquez. The duo finished as the runners-up in the competition, with Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal clinching the top spot.
During an episode of the White Wine Question Time podcast with Kate Thornton, the 42-year-old shared insights into her whirlwind entry into the show, which coincided with personal challenges she was facing. She recalled her friends, including Dan Walker and Gethin Jones, expressing concerns about her last-minute decision to join the dance competition.
Gethin had cautioned Helen about joining “Strictly Come Dancing” shortly after her separation from her ex-husband Richie Myler, the father of her three children. In the same podcast, Helen also reflected on her departure from her BBC Radio 5 Live show in 2023 after just a year, describing it as a dream job in many aspects.
Despite the perks of the role, including its proximity to her home, Helen found it difficult to walk away from a position she had long aspired to. Since leaving BBC Radio 5 Live, she has been a regular presenter on the BBC’s Morning Live show, co-hosting with Gethin Jones and others.
Recently, Helen had to clarify Gethin’s absence from Morning Live, revealing that he was participating in The Celebrity Apprentice. She reassured viewers that Gethin had not switched careers but was engaged in the reality TV show.
