A significant emergency response, including a helicopter, was dispatched to a prison in the North East yesterday. The incident occurred at HMP Deerbolt near Barnard Castle, resulting in the transfer of a male individual to a hospital. The Great North Air Ambulance Service helicopter and paramedics from North East Ambulance Service were present at the scene.
Following the incident, the air ambulance was no longer needed, and the male casualty was transported to Darlington Memorial Hospital by road. The current condition of the individual is undisclosed. According to reports from ChronicleLive, the emergency was classified as a medical issue. Officials from North East Ambulance Service confirmed receiving the call at 4:52 pm on Friday.
A spokesperson from NEAS stated, “We were alerted to a medical incident at HMP Deerbolt at 4:52 pm on Friday, May 22. We dispatched two ambulance crews and the air ambulance, transporting one male patient to Darlington Memorial Hospital for further medical care.”
A representative from the Great North Air Ambulance Service mentioned, “Our team was activated for an incident near Barnard Castle at 5:08 pm. They swiftly reached the location within 11 minutes. However, upon arrival, their assistance was no longer required, and they returned to base.”
HMP Deerbolt is identified as a Category C prison and a young offender’s institution.
