A honeymooning tourist in the Maldives is in critical condition following a shark attack that led to severe blood loss and the amputation of his leg. The victim, identified as a Spanish gynaecologist named Borja, had recently married Ana before embarking on their first holiday as a married couple.
The harrowing incident occurred off Kooddoo, an island in the Gaafu Alif Atoll, where the victim was part of a group that entered the water near a fish processing plant known for high shark activity. After the attack, he was initially taken to Ga. Atoll Hospital and later airlifted to the capital city of Male for intensive care at ADK Hospital.
Local sources suggested that the absence of fish waste dumping near Kooddoo may have heightened shark hunger, triggering a predatory response when the group entered the water. A formal complaint has been filed against the excursion company for alleged negligence.
Family members of Ana, a well-known Castellon businessman’s daughter, have traveled to the Maldives to support her during this difficult time. The victim remains in intensive care, with precarious medical conditions in the island nation.
Kooddoo, home to the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort, a popular honeymoon spot, has attracted attention due to this tragic shark attack incident.
