A couple has been apprehended following a police intervention at a residence in Gateshead in response to concerns about a baby’s well-being who unfortunately passed away in a hospital afterward.
Law enforcement responded to the residence in Deckham on Thursday afternoon following alerts from the ambulance service.
Subsequently, the infant was transported to the hospital but succumbed shortly after. Two individuals have been arrested and subsequently released on bail, as per a report by Chronicle Live.
The man was taken into custody on suspicion of causing or permitting the death of a child, while the woman was detained on suspicion of neglect.
A representative from Northumbria Police mentioned, “Shortly after 1.45pm yesterday (Thursday), we received a report via the ambulance service of concern for the welfare of a baby in the Gateshead area. The baby was taken to the hospital but tragically died a short time later.”
“Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this time. We immediately launched an investigation, and two people have been arrested in connection with the report.”
“The investigation is still in its early stages, and we urge the public to refrain from speculating as officers diligently work to determine the circumstances.”
