Iran’s recently appointed Supreme Leader has declared that the recent ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran does not signify the conclusion of hostilities.
Mojtaba Khamenei, in a statement broadcast on Iranian state TV, emphasized that while the war is not over, all military units are expected to adhere to orders and respect the ceasefire.
Since assuming his new role following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, in the initial US-Israeli strikes on Tehran, Khamenei has not made any public appearances.
Initial reports suggested that Khamenei underwent leg surgery in Moscow, arranged by Russian President Putin, after sustaining severe injuries in airstrikes. Current intelligence assessments indicate that Khamenei is receiving treatment for a serious medical condition at a secure facility in Qom and is in an unconscious state, rendering him incapable of participating in decision-making processes.
US President Donald Trump previously expressed uncertainty about Khamenei’s status, questioning whether he was alive or not, as Khamenei had not been seen since his appointment. A leaked audio recording later implied that Khamenei was on the brink of death during the US-Israeli attack on his residence, with additional reports suggesting he may have lost a limb and suffered significant internal injuries.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard disclosed to the House Intelligence Committee that Khamenei sustained severe injuries in an Israeli assault on March 19. Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was designated as his father’s successor in early March but has remained out of the public eye.
Despite being targeted in the same strike that killed his father, Khamenei narrowly escaped the fatal attack.
