Jamie Redknapp has shared how his oldest son initially reacted negatively to the news of a new sibling. The sports pundit and his wife Frida Andersson welcomed their first child together in November 2021, shortly after tying the knot.
His relationship with the Swedish model, who has four children from a previous relationship, began after his marriage to Louise ended in 2017 following 19 years together.
Following the separation, Jamie chose to keep details about the breakup private and refrained from discussing personal matters in his 2020 book.
Providing a rare insight into life post-divorce, Jamie, aged 52, disclosed how his sons Charley, 21, and Beau, 16, reacted to his new beginning and the expansion of their family.
During an appearance on The Romesh Ranganathan Show where he talked about fatherhood in his late 40s, Harry Redknapp’s son admitted that he feels more relaxed nowadays, according to the Mirror.
However, he also revealed the challenges he faced when informing his kids about the upcoming arrival of a younger sibling. He confessed that Charley didn’t take the news well initially when he broke it to him while picking him up from school.
Reflecting on Charley’s reaction, Jamie acknowledged the upheaval in his son’s life, explaining how everything seemed straightforward after his first marriage, but then meeting someone new and remarrying altered the dynamics.
Regarding his other son Beau, Jamie mentioned that he had an easier time accepting the news compared to Charley.
Despite feeling immense love and a sense of a bigger heart at the time, Jamie realized that from Charley and Beau’s perspective, nothing was going to change.
After a period of adjustment, the boys have now embraced their roles as older brothers to Raphael.
In July, Jamie expressed his pride in Charley through a heartfelt Instagram tribute on his 21st birthday, commending him for being a great big brother to his younger siblings.
Louise also marked Charley’s milestone by sharing a collection of photos spanning his 21 years, expressing her pride in the young man he has become.
In her romantic life, Louise has been dating businessman Drew Michael since 2023. Unlike Jamie, she is taking her time and not rushing into marriage again. She shared her happiness in spending time with Drew and praised him for being a great and kind person.
When asked about potential wedding plans, Louise mentioned that she is focused on enjoying her time with Drew and being content in the present moment without looking too far ahead.
Louise Redknapp is set to make an appearance on Sunday Brunch on Channel 4 today alongside hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer from 10 am.
