Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has introduced its new Joybuy platform in the UK in a bid to compete with major players like Amazon. The company, valued at £30 billion, offers a wide range of products including technology, appliances, beauty items, groceries, and household essentials, featuring popular brands such as Apple, LEGO, Samsung, and L’Oréal.
Joybuy is rolling out next-day delivery for orders exceeding £29 in London and various cities like Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Oxford, and Cambridge, reaching a population of 17 million. Additionally, the platform provides a same-day “Double 11” delivery service for orders placed before 11 am, ensuring delivery by 11 pm. JD.com has developed its logistics network and will operate distribution centers in Milton Keynes and Luton.
Following the withdrawal from negotiations to acquire major UK retail brands in recent years, JD.com has expressed its commitment to establishing a long-term presence in the UK market. The company believes its diverse product offerings, competitive pricing, and convenience will attract a new customer base. Matthew Nobbs, Managing Director of Joybuy UK, expressed confidence in the company’s growth prospects, emphasizing the importance of delivering an exceptional customer experience.
In addition to the UK launch, JD.com is expanding its operations to Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. The company finalized a 2.2 billion euro (£1.9 billion) deal to acquire Ceconomy, a Germany-based electronics retail group, last year.
