Julia Brown from “World on Fire” has landed the lead role in Channel 5’s upcoming drama, “Monarch of the Glen.” The show features a star-studded cast, including Phyllis Logan from “Downton Abbey,” John Gordon Sinclair from “Gregory’s Girl,” Rishi Nair from “Grantchester,” and Chris Fulton from “Bridgerton.”

In this new iteration, the central character is now a woman named Isla Campbell, played by Julia Brown. The story follows Isla returning to her family’s Highland estate after her father’s passing, only to be confronted with a million-pound debt, impending bank closure, and her brother’s refusal to let go of their ancestral home.

Phyllis Logan portrays Isla’s aunt Morag, taking on the matriarch role previously held by Susan Hampshire. John Gordon Sinclair plays the family lawyer Fergus in this adaptation inspired by Sir Compton Mackenzie’s Highland Novels series.

The series, a fresh take on the original, is not a direct remake but introduces new characters and storylines. Filming is currently ongoing in Scotland, with Ecosse Films producing the six-part series. Creator Jeremy Brock expressed excitement about reviving “Monarch of the Glen,” promising a family saga full of romance, humor, and memorable characters set against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.
