A Kanye West concert in Italy was called off due to concerns related to public order and safety. The 48-year-old rapper, now going by Ye since 2021, was supposed to headline the Pulse of Gaia Festival at the RCF Arena in Reggio Emilia on July 18. This decision came after the city prefect, Salvatore Angieri, canceled the event following objections raised by the local Jewish community regarding West’s past antisemitic remarks.
Furthermore, a source close to Ye has refuted these allegations, as reported by Mirror. Another show featuring American rapper Travis Scott at the Hellwatt Festival on July 17 was also canceled due to the consecutive scheduling of the two events.
Scott previously faced severe criticism after a tragic incident at his Astroworld festival in Houston, Texas, in 2021, where 10 individuals aged between nine and 27 lost their lives in a crowd surge toward the stage.
Reggio Emilia authorities released a statement indicating that a meeting was held to assess the public order and safety concerns surrounding the concerts. Following this meeting, both West’s and Scott’s concerts were prohibited at the RCF Arena, a venue with a capacity of around 103,000 attendees, to ensure public safety and order.
West had a performance in Marseille, France, canceled in April after being denied entry to the UK earlier that month, leading to the cancellation of his headline shows at London’s Wireless Festival due to backlash over his antisemitic statements. West has a history of controversial actions, including releasing a track titled “Heil Hitler” in 2025 and selling a swastika T-shirt on his website. He has apologized for his past behavior, attributing it to his bipolar disorder.
Despite these cancellations, West is set to perform at upcoming events in Istanbul and Vitesse Arnhem’s Gelredome football stadium in the Netherlands. Both West and Scott have been contacted for comments on the situation.
