Published on

Keira Knightley is preparing to return to the West End stage after an absence of nearly 15 years. She will star in the debut stage adaptation of The Lives Of Others, alongside Luke Thompson from Bridgerton and Stephen Dillane from Game Of Thrones. The play is based on the acclaimed 2006 film that won an Oscar.

The story is set in 1984 East Germany and follows a writer (Thompson) and his actress partner (Knightley) as they face state surveillance. The Stasi officer (Dillane) monitoring them undergoes his own personal transformation in the process.

Renowned for her film roles, Knightley first graced the West End in 2009 and later returned in 2011. The upcoming production, directed by Robert Icke, is scheduled to run at the Adelphi Theatre in London from October 2026 to January 2027.

The Lives of Others is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, known for successful West End shows like Paddington The Musical and The Book Of Mormon. Friedman expressed excitement for the adaptation, highlighting its themes of freedom, power, and human connection.

The original film received multiple awards, including an Oscar and a Bafta. The full cast for the stage version is yet to be announced.
