“King’s Guard Horse Sounds Alarm in Heat Emergency”

Published on

A King’s Guard member had to signal an emergency alarm when his horse nearly collapsed due to the extreme heat. The officer, visibly concerned for the horse’s well-being, activated the alarm as the animal struggled in the scorching 30-degree weather in London.

Witnesses observed the guardsman, outfitted in a vivid scarlet tunic and dark trousers, waiting for assistance as the horse showed signs of distress. Another soldier eventually arrived to take over the horse’s duties at Whitehall after the initial guard dealt with the emergency alarm.

The horse, visibly unstable in the heat, was led away from its post for safety behind the gates. The incident, recorded by a bystander, garnered over 200,000 views and sparked concern among viewers about the animals’ welfare in such conditions.

This event follows a previous incident in May when another King’s Guard horse exhibited erratic behavior during a heatwave. The rising temperatures in late June also led to the cancellation of the traditional Changing of the Guard ceremonies at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle to ensure the safety of soldiers, horses, and spectators.

The Household Troops, responsible for safeguarding the Sovereign since 1660, have faced challenges in recent weeks due to the extreme weather conditions. Their dedication to duty is evident, but precautions have been necessary to protect both the animals and those who come to witness their ceremonial duties.
