Lewis Capaldi was moved to tears during his performance at BST Hyde Park as he expressed uncertainty about his ability to continue performing following his Tourette’s diagnosis. The 29-year-old musician, who was diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome in September 2022, opened up about the challenges he faced due to the neurological disorder causing involuntary muscle tics.
Reflecting on his journey at the London gig, Lewis emotionally shared his struggles, particularly how his symptoms worsen during live performances. This was evident during his set at Glastonbury Festival in June 2023 when severe tics affected his singing, prompting his supportive fans to sing along with him. Subsequently, he decided to take a break from touring to prioritize his well-being.
During his recent performance on July 11, Lewis expressed gratitude for being able to perform again, acknowledging the uncertainty he previously felt. He humorously addressed the audience, urging them to stay till the end of his set despite the England-Norway World Cup match distraction.
In a generous gesture, Lewis reportedly treated England fans to £2,000 worth of drinks at a pub in Mayfair after a football match. The Scottish singer’s gesture was well-received by fans and onlookers, exemplifying his goodwill.
Additionally, Lewis recently returned to Newcastle after three years and shared his enthusiasm about performing for large crowds again. He assured fans that he would not delay his return to the city and hinted at working on a new album soon.
Lewis’ emotional journey and resilience have resonated with fans, highlighting the challenges he faces but also his commitment to his craft and well-being.
