A brutal killer who exerted control over a defenseless father and former DJ in a prolonged period of torment and mistreatment has been sentenced to prison. Ashley Crowder, aged 37, subjected 37-year-old Graham Cox to abuse before ultimately causing his death through violence and strangulation in Bolton in March 2024.

Crowder, convicted of murder, assault, and theft relating to Mr. Cox, received a life sentence with a minimum of 25 years at Bolton Crown Court. The victim’s body was found at Crowder’s residence in Farnworth, concealed under a blanket, showing multiple injuries, with 14 attributed to a weapon.

The court revealed that Mr. Cox’s demise resulted from sustained cruelty directed at the vulnerable and physically frail individual, culminating in strangulation by Crowder with lethal intent. Despite the severity of the crime, Crowder displayed no remorse or empathy towards the victim’s family during the trial proceedings.

Graham Cox, a talented footballer and accomplished artist and musician, faced deteriorating health due to drug addiction and other health issues. Homeless and vulnerable, he was subjected to captivity and violence by Crowder in the weeks leading up to his tragic death.

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Naismith condemned Crowder’s exploitation and abuse of Mr. Cox, emphasizing the need to seek justice for victims of such heinous acts. The sentencing aims to provide some solace to the grieving family and underscores the commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals from harm.
