The remains of a Netflix personality who lost his life in a snowslide have been airlifted from a mountain peak in Pakistan.
Nims Purja, a renowned mountaineer and ex-Royal Marine who featured in a Netflix documentary named 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, met his demise while leading a group of 10 climbers on Broad Peak – the world’s 12th highest peak – when an avalanche hit.
At the age of 43, his body, along with those of Chinese climber Zhong Wang, and Nepali climbers Nima Sherpa, Gyalu Sherpa, and Kilu Sherpa, was retrieved from the mountain top a week after the tragic incident took place.
The President of the Alpine Club of Pakistan expressed deep sorrow, announcing the successful recovery of the bodies after a challenging operation on Broad Peak. The bodies have been safely transported to Base Camp.
Despite some climbers’ bodies still missing, authorities stated that Purja and the others’ remains will be flown to Islamabad after coordinating with their respective embassies.
Earlier, three bodies were recovered from the mountain, bringing the total fatalities to eight, marking one of the deadliest mountaineering calamities in Pakistan’s history.
Following a search operation, Elite Exped, Purja’s company, confirmed his demise in an Instagram post, mourning the loss of Nims, his companions, Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta), and Nima Sherpa.
