Trump later backed down from the confrontation after reaching a last-minute ceasefire agreement.

In response to Trump’s rhetoric, Sadiq Khan expressed his dismay at the offensive language used by the leader of the free world, emphasizing the need for respectful dialogue, particularly when addressing followers of Islam. He underscored the significance of fostering sustainable peace and unity, calling on Trump to recognize the responsibilities that come with being the President of the United States.

Khan also raised concerns about joint US and Israeli actions in the region, questioning the legality of attacks on civilian infrastructure and advocating for permanent ceasefires in Lebanon and Iran to prevent further loss of innocent lives. He urged for consistent condemnation of such actions, regardless of the country involved, drawing parallels between the responses to Russia’s actions in Ukraine and those of the US and Israel in Iran.

Meanwhile, Keir Starmer and other global leaders joined forces in demanding Israel to cease its assault on Lebanon, while also pushing for a lasting peace following the US-Iran ceasefire agreement. Despite the temporary truce, Israel continued its military operations in Lebanon against Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed militia group.
