Judy Church was aware of her boyfriend Leroy Fowler’s involvement with another woman, yet she remained hopeful that he would eventually choose her. Church and Leroy had been in a relationship for approximately a decade, starting after Leroy’s divorce when he became Church’s tenant in Salisbury, Massachusetts. Church, a former teacher and the main breadwinner, showered Leroy with gifts, including a motorcycle.
During their time together, Leroy also maintained a relationship with Barbara Randall, whom he reconnected with on Facebook. Despite Church’s disapproval of this situation, Leroy continued his interactions with Barbara. Church even reached out to Barbara in an attempt to end their connection, accusing Leroy of deceit and labeling him a coward.
On Leroy’s 55th birthday, which fell on November 11, 2022, Church called emergency services reporting Leroy’s severe illness, mentioning that he was experiencing nosebleeds and confusion. At the hospital, medical professionals discovered signs of antifreeze ingestion, leading to organ failure and ultimately Leroy’s passing after life support was withdrawn.
Suspicions arose when Leroy’s family implicated Church in his death, noting Leroy’s concerns about potential poisoning by Church. Subsequent investigations revealed antifreeze in Leroy’s system, with incriminating evidence found at Church’s residence. The discovery of a tainted Powerade bottle and disturbing videos depicting Leroy’s suffering further incriminated Church, leading to her arrest and subsequent murder charges.
During the trial, prosecutors characterized the love triangle involving Church, Leroy, and Barbara as toxic, highlighting Church’s use of antifreeze as a murder weapon. Testimonies revealed Church’s disturbing behavior and callous actions towards Leroy, solidifying the case against her. Church’s conviction for first-degree murder with premeditation and cruelty resulted in a life sentence without parole.
Barbara and Leroy’s family expressed their grief and emphasized the tragic consequences of Church’s actions, underscoring the pain inflicted by her betrayal and deception. The court’s decision to deliver justice in the form of a life sentence reflected the severity of Church’s crimes and the lasting impact on those affected by Leroy’s untimely death.
