A man has been taken into custody on suspicion of trying to abduct an underage girl in Kentwood, Michigan. John Moore, 29, allegedly approached a 14-year-old girl in his black SUV while she was walking home from school around 6 pm on May 12. Surveillance footage shows Moore parking his vehicle near the girl, jumping out, and attempting to grab her.

According to the girl’s account to the police, Moore told her, “I got you,” as he tried to seize her. The girl fought back, leading to a physical struggle before she managed to escape to safety. Despite injuring Moore during the scuffle, the specific nature and extent of his injuries remain undisclosed by authorities.

Following Moore’s arrest, investigators linked him to another assault on a 66-year-old woman in the same area on the same day. The woman reported being attacked between 5 pm and 6:30 pm on Poinsettia Avenue Southeast while tending to her garden. Police quickly identified Moore through CCTV footage and witness statements, leading to his arrest.

Moore is currently held at the Kent County Correctional Facility on a $140,000 bail. He is facing charges of assault and battery, unlawful imprisonment, and two probation violations. Moore had previously received probation for incidents involving filming upskirt videos of women and inappropriate physical contact with female shoppers at a grocery store.

Laura Jouce, Moore’s public defender, described him as kind and gentle despite the allegations. She mentioned that Moore has acknowledged substance abuse issues while in jail.
