A man who made threats to detonate Jewish schools shortly after yelling “I will kill you Jews” has been sentenced to prison.
Tavius Jean-Charles, aged 36, intimidated six individuals with repeated threats over several months near synagogues. According to the court, Charles directed his threats at people he believed were Jewish, including uttering death threats and advocating for the destruction of Jewish educational institutions.
One victim was disturbed when Charles suggested blowing up a Jewish school in Stoke Newington, north London. This led to Charles’ arrest, following his previous day’s outburst of “I will kill you Jews.”
Charles received a five-year prison term at Southwark Crown Court, a move praised by the Metropolitan Police for its dedication to combating hate crimes. This verdict comes shortly after two Jewish men were stabbed in Golders Green, north London.
Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke, responsible for policing in the area, stated after Charles’ sentencing that despite his claims of no animosity towards Jewish people during questioning, evidence proved otherwise. She commended the joint effort that led to his conviction.
The Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism detectives are handling 11 investigations related to assaults on the Jewish and Iranian communities, including the attack on two Jewish men in Golders Green. So far, 35 arrests have been made in connection with these investigations, resulting in 10 charges.
Charles’ offenses occurred between October 2025 and March 2026 near synagogues. The perpetrator, residing in Hackney, east London, confessed to seven racially-aggravated public order offenses and one count of racially-aggravated criminal damage last month. As part of his sentence, Charles was issued an indefinite restraining order preventing contact with his victims or entry into the Stamford Hill area.
