In South Wales, police officers shot a man suspected of carrying a crossbow. The incident occurred at an address in St Edward Street, Newport, just before midnight on Friday in response to reports of threatening behavior.
According to a spokesperson from Gwent Police, a 21-year-old Newport man was shot by officers after being seen with a weapon. The man was subsequently taken to the hospital and is currently in a stable condition. The spokesperson mentioned that specially-trained firearms officers were called to the scene along with regular officers.
Deputy Chief Constable Nicholas McLain assured the public that there is no ongoing risk following the isolated incident and that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the case. He emphasized the seriousness with which reports of firearms and weapons offenses are taken, highlighting the professional and measured response based on the level of perceived risk.
