Melanie C has shared that her newest album draws inspiration from her time with the Spice Girls. The iconic girl group revolutionized the music scene with their dance-pop hit “Wannabe,” which marked its 30th anniversary this year by claiming the number one spot on the UK singles chart.

Consisting of Melanie Brown MBE, Melanie C, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, and Victoria Beckham, the chart-topping quintet achieved great success with two UK number one albums and nine chart-topping singles, including classics like “2 Become 1,” “Who Do You Think You Are,” and “Spice Up Your Life.”

Following their disbandment in 2000, the group has reunited intermittently, with their latest reunion in 2019 sans Victoria Beckham. For Melanie C, also known as Melanie Chisholm, the impact of their early years remains profound.

In recent years, the 52-year-old artist has reignited her love for dance music, establishing herself as a DJ in renowned venues like Pacha and Cafe Mambo in Ibiza, along with London’s popular Sink The Pink club night.

Transitioning towards a more dance-oriented sound, her upcoming album “Sweat,” set to release on May 1, embodies a vibrant energy reminiscent of the Spice Girls era. Melanie C emphasizes that her time with the Spice Girls instilled in her a sense of optimism and positivity, which she endeavors to convey through her music.

Reflecting on her past experiences with the group, Melanie C reminisces about the magical moments shared during their creative process. She acknowledges the lasting impact of her Spice Girls legacy, which has influenced her latest musical endeavors.

Looking ahead, Melanie C expresses her eagerness to commemorate the 30th anniversary of “Wannabe” alongside her former bandmates, highlighting the strong bond they continue to share. As she prepares for the release of “Sweat” and a world tour starting in September, Melanie C remains optimistic about the future and the possibility of celebrating their remarkable journey together.
