“Mixed Reactions in Makerfield Amid Candidate Controversy”

Published on

Makerfield residents express strong disapproval over remarks attributed to Reform UK’s candidate in the by-election, with uncertainty prevailing over the outcome of the crucial vote.

Allegations of offensive social media posts made by 41-year-old Robert Kenyon prior to his political career have surfaced, prompting criticism and defense from within the Reform UK party. In these posts, Kenyon reportedly made derogatory comments about women who undergo abortions and expressed sexist views on their abilities.

Moreover, Kenyon is said to have shared explicit and demeaning content about celebrity Carol Vorderman on a now-deleted Twitter account, leading to accusations of misogyny and online abuse against him.

Reform UK has defended Kenyon, stating that the comments were made years before his entry into politics and portraying him as an ordinary individual rather than a seasoned politician.

Local residents in Ashton-in-Makerfield shared their dismay over the alleged comments made by Kenyon, expressing concerns about his suitability to represent the constituency. Criticisms ranged from labeling the remarks as insulting and bigoted to questioning Kenyon’s outdated views on gender roles.

While some residents believe the controversy could sway the election outcome, others, like Reform voter John, vouched for Kenyon’s character based on personal acquaintance, dismissing the accusations as out of character.

On the political front, opinions varied on Andy Burnham’s candidacy and his potential bid for Prime Minister. Residents praised Burnham for his track record of accomplishments in the area, while voicing skepticism over his political ambitions and strategies.

The by-election landscape also saw a rise in support for Restore Britain, a new party challenging Reform UK’s dominance in the constituency. Signs of voter shift were evident, with some supporters expressing disillusionment with Farage’s party and seeking alternatives.

In light of the evolving political scenario, the outcome of the by-election remains uncertain, with voters weighing their options amidst shifting party dynamics and candidate controversies.
