A mother is currently in a coma following a collision while using an electric scooter in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, during the early hours of Sunday, May 10. Identified as Tania Kerr, a woman in her 40s, she was struck by a small white sedan around 12:20 am. The driver of the sedan did not stop at the scene, prompting a police search for the vehicle captured in CCTV footage.
The victim’s partner, speaking outside the Royal Melbourne Hospital, urged the driver to surrender to authorities. Tania sustained severe head and spinal injuries as a result of the hit-and-run incident.
Expressing frustration and disbelief, the partner, Kayla Grech, conveyed to the media, “I’m very angry, very hurt, lost for words really. Especially to leave someone like that on the side of the road.”
As of now, there have been no arrests made by the police in connection with the case. Victoria Police Sergeant Emile Caggiati condemned the driver’s actions as “deplorable” and emphasized the importance of safety measures for e-scooter riders, including wearing helmets and ensuring visibility with lights, particularly at night.
Sergeant Caggiati stressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “It’s appalling really, any motorist that leaves the scene of a collision where someone needs assistance, that behaviour is just deplorable.” He also urged the driver to come forward and cooperate with the authorities during a press conference held on Sunday.
