A 32-year-old mother of two, described as “healthy,” tragically passed away after undergoing liposuction, prompting a police investigation for possible manslaughter.
Rebeca Llacho Cahuana went for the procedure alone, starting at 5pm on Friday, April 17, with an expected duration of four hours. However, at around 10pm, a clinic staff member contacted her sister with distressing news.
According to Jackie, she was informed of complications during the surgery but was not provided with specific details. Rebeca was swiftly taken to a public hospital, where her death was confirmed shortly after her arrival.
Before the operation in Cayma, Peru, Rebeca was reportedly in good health and had successfully completed all pre-operation tests, as stated by her sister, who has lodged a formal complaint with the authorities.
The surgeon, José David Molina Barreto, who allegedly rented a room at the clinic for the procedure, is now reportedly being investigated for potential manslaughter. He is said to not be registered as a plastic surgery specialist with the Peruvian Medical College.
The clinic, identified by regional health manager Walther Oporto as only licensed for consultations and not surgical procedures, has faced scrutiny. Authorities have been unsuccessful in locating Molina. Rebeca is survived by her two young children.
In response to the incident, Clínica Florez Salud released a statement on April 21, asserting their compliance with regulations and willingness to cooperate with investigative authorities by providing all necessary documentation for clarity on the situation.
