A woman who recently became a mother sustained severe stab wounds when her brother allegedly attacked her with a machete, shouting, “why aren’t you dead yet?” The incident left the woman with a four-inch slash on her right hand and nearly severed fingers in the early hours of Monday.

The alleged attacker, Ruben Altidore, was apprehended in Margate, a town approximately 40 miles north of Miami, Florida, on the same day. Altidore, 36, appeared in court the following day facing charges of attempted felony murder, aggravated child abuse, and a probation violation.

Reports indicate that during the assault, Altidore was heard yelling, as documented in an arrest report by a Florida news outlet. The victim managed to escape her home and sought help from a neighbor, Luis Pereira, who described her frantic plea for assistance.

Footage from a doorbell camera captured the victim ringing her neighbor’s doorbell before collapsing on the ground. Despite the mother’s injuries, her one-year-old child was unharmed but found covered in blood at the scene.

Police investigations revealed blood inside the residence and on a machete sheath, though the motive behind the attack remains unknown. Altidore is currently detained at Broward County Main Jail pending further legal proceedings.
