Reform leader Nigel Farage received an additional £270,000, which is nearly three times his annual MP salary, for his endorsement of gold bullion. This payment, disclosed in Mr. Farage’s recent update to the MPs’ register of financial interests, marks the largest single payment for his non-parliamentary work. The payment was made by Direct Bullion, and Mr. Farage worked an estimated four hours per month over three months as a “brand ambassador.”
In addition to this payment, Mr. Farage had previously declared earnings from Direct Bullion, including £91,200 in February 2025 and £135,000 in November the previous year. He also disclosed receiving £18,402 for approximately six hours of presenting on GB News. A spokesperson for Mr. Farage clarified that his role as a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion had been previously reported.
Recent reports from the Mirror revealed that despite portraying himself as aligned with the working class, Mr. Farage owns multiple properties, including a grade-II listed property in Surrey acquired in May 2024 and a seaside residence purchased through his company Thorn in the Side Ltd in 2020.
Mr. Farage is under scrutiny for a £5 million gift from billionaire Christopher Harborne, with questions raised about his failure to declare the gift. Mr. Farage has defended that the gift was unrelated to his political activities and cited various reasons for receiving it, including personal security expenses and recognition for his Brexit advocacy. The Parliament’s standards commissioner is investigating the matter.
Responding to these revelations, Labour chair Anna Turley criticized Mr. Farage for prioritizing personal gain over his parliamentary duties. She highlighted his lucrative engagements, such as promoting gold sales, and emphasized the need for him to focus on serving his constituents in Clacton.
In recent interviews, Mr. Farage insisted that the £5 million gift was a private matter and rebuffed inquiries about its usage. He asserted his right to spend the money as he chooses, dismissing concerns about transparency regarding the gift.
Mr. Farage’s remarks regarding the gift have drawn criticism and raised questions about his financial dealings and priorities. The ongoing scrutiny underscores the need for transparency and accountability in public office.
