Nigella Lawson has been officially announced as the newest judge on The Great British Bake Off. The 66-year-old will be joining Paul Hollywood and taking over from Prue Leith, who recently revealed her departure from the show.
Known for her own BBC programs and previous role on Channel 4’s cooking competition, The Taste, Nigella is recognized for her witty cooking remarks and playful innuendos, making her a fitting addition to the Bake Off team.
Expressing her excitement, Nigella stated, “I’m both thrilled and daunted to follow in the footsteps of the esteemed Prue Leith and Mary Berry. The Great British Bake Off is not just a TV show; it’s a national treasure, and I feel honored to be part of it. I look forward to working with the team and the new bakers ahead. My best wishes to the wonderful Prue, and I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity.”
Outgoing judge Dame Prue Leith endorsed Nigella, remarking, “I’m delighted that Nigella will be a part of the fantastic Bake Off experience. She brings charm, fun, and a wealth of culinary knowledge to the table.”
Ian Katz, Chief Content Officer at Channel 4, expressed enthusiasm about Nigella joining the show, highlighting her warmth, expertise, and sophistication as valuable assets to the Bake Off lineup.
Prue Leith, 85, who had been part of the show since 2017 following its transition from BBC to Channel 4, bid farewell in a statement on Instagram, citing her decision to step down after nine series to pursue other interests.
The upcoming 17th series of Bake Off will feature Nigella Lawson and Paul Hollywood alongside hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding.
Ralph Lee, CEO of Love Productions, welcomed Nigella to the Bake Off family, praising her influence in the culinary world and her genuine passion for baking.
The new season of The Great British Bake Off with Nigella is scheduled to be filmed this summer and is set to air later in the year.
