Ocado to Cut 1,000 Jobs, Saving £150M

Published on

Ocado has announced intentions to cut approximately 1,000 jobs in a bid to save around £150 million as part of broader cost-saving measures.

The online grocery retailer stated that the job reductions would impact about 5% of its workforce, with the majority affecting its UK operations, including the Ocado headquarters in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The company plans to streamline research and development activities by merging Ocado Solutions and Ocado Intelligent Automation into a single division.

The decision was disclosed in Ocado’s latest financial report, which showed a significant increase in profits. The company reported a 12.1% rise in group revenue to £1.36 billion for the year ending on November 30, 2025, with adjusted EBITDA climbing 59% to £178 million.

Ocado’s CEO, Tim Steiner, emphasized the focus on strategic R&D investments that align with the company’s value creation objectives. He highlighted the restructuring of the organization to align with its commercial strategy and operational simplification, especially as the company expands into various international markets following the conclusion of exclusive agreements.

Steiner expressed regret over the impact on employees, acknowledging their contributions to Ocado’s success and pledging support for those affected by the workforce changes.

Established in 2000 by Tim Steiner, Jason Gissing, and Jonathan Faiman, former Goldman Sachs employees, Ocado offers a wide range of products, including its own brand and popular labels like M&S food.
