“Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Festival Triumphs & Faces Criticism”

Published on

Olivia Rodrigo’s first-ever festival, Daisy Chain Fields, received acclaim for its lineup featuring all female artists and its focus on supporting reproductive rights and combating gender-based violence. Despite positive feedback from some vendors, the event is facing criticism from two vendors who claim they faced poor working conditions and have not been paid yet.

The festival, held for one day at Great Park in Irvine, California, attracted a large crowd of fans who came to see performances by artists such as Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Bikini Kill, and Olivia Rodrigo herself. All performers volunteered their time, and the proceeds from the festival were donated to 10 organizations that advocate for women’s rights, including Planned Parenthood, National Women’s Law Center, Black Mamas Matter, and the National Institute for Reproductive Health.

Initially raising $10 million, the festival’s funds were doubled to $20 million through a matching donation from Melinda French Gates. Over 50 food and drink vendors participated in the festival, with many expressing their satisfaction with the event in the days following.

While vendors like Buo Buo and Mano Po shared positive experiences, two vendors, including Mary Chacon of Ugly Oats Kitchen, revealed that they had experienced challenges. Chacon mentioned issues with payment delays, lack of communication about facilities, and potential fines for food shortages during the event.

Following the vendors’ complaints, Por Suerte, a custom fortune cookie company, also reported similar experiences of poor communication and delayed payments. However, they later mentioned that organizers had reached out, and they were expecting payment soon.

Olivia Rodrigo has not addressed the criticisms publicly. The event, which emphasized women’s and reproductive rights, has been hailed as a success despite concerns over a heatwave and traffic congestion. City officials have expressed support for hosting the festival again next year.

Rodrigo, known for her advocacy for reproductive rights, has actively supported women-focused charities and donated a portion of her ticket sales to various causes. She is currently touring North America as part of her Unraveled tour.

In response to the festival, Rodrigo shared on social media that it was a highlight of her career, emphasizing the sense of collective hope and care for others that the event fostered.
