Greek authorities have apprehended a man believed to have connections with Hamas for an attempted attack on a cruise ship. The 37-year-old Palestinian suspect was captured on the island of Crete and is accused of receiving training from the militant organization after joining its ranks.
Following the arrest, intelligence operatives conducted searches in residences in Crete and Athens, uncovering various electronic devices and financial items. The individual is scheduled to appear before a judge on Sunday for further legal proceedings.
Police have indicated that the man’s arrest is related to the detention of four Palestinian individuals in Cyprus, who are under investigation for alleged terrorism-related offenses and involvement in a criminal group. In Cyprus, two men were initially detained on May 22 based on intelligence findings, with suspicions of possessing materials that could be utilized in making explosives. Subsequently, two more men were apprehended on May 29 in connection with the same inquiry.
