Jet2 has issued a statement in response to the tragic passing of a passenger on a flight bound for Manchester Airport. The deceased, identified as Callum Kerr, aged 35, from Warrington, was aboard flight LS966 from Larnaca, Cyprus, accompanied by his girlfriend on Sunday evening. Eyewitnesses recounted to the Manchester Evening News that Mr. Kerr exhibited disruptive behavior during the flight, allegedly due to pre-flight alcohol consumption.
Following reports of a disturbance, Greater Manchester Police intervened at Manchester Airport around 2:25 am on Monday, responding to complaints of the man’s aggressive conduct towards fellow passengers and crew members. It was disclosed that other passengers had restrained Mr. Kerr before law enforcement entered the aircraft. Despite being handcuffed by officers, he was found unresponsive, prompting immediate CPR efforts. Tragically, Mr. Kerr passed away on Tuesday afternoon after being transported to the hospital.
A spokesperson for Jet2 expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased customer, refraining from further comments as investigations continue. Concurrently, Greater Manchester Police announced their mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for scrutiny of the officers’ actions leading up to the incident. Detectives from the Major Incident Team are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the event.
It was clarified that Mr. Kerr was not under arrest, and no arrests were made. The police confirmed two reports of assault, one involving a passenger and the other a member of the cabin crew. In a statement provided through the police, Mr. Kerr’s family described him as a devoted family man, father to three young children, passionate about sports, and possessing a kind-hearted nature.
